September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month
Celebrate Life is an affirmation to acknowledge and commemorate those living with and suffering from painful and debilitating inherited blood disorders like Thalssemia and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
The SickleCell Thalassemia Patients Network (SCTPN) will host its 21st Annual Walk for Education on Saturday, September 14, 2019, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, in Central Park.
This annual fundraising event provides direct support to individuals and families affected by sickle cell and thalassemia in New York State and beyond. Proceeds from the walk fund SCTPN’s Academic Achievement Awards for grade school students living with SCD, the Undergraduate Scholarship Fund, the Public Outreach & Education Services (POES), and the Family Emergency Fund.
The Partners, and consultants of UNTOLD Story are proud to participate in the SCTPN Walk for Education and have set a goal for Team Celebrate Life to raise $5,000 to fund and launch the Lori Fleming Belenger Graduate Scholarship Fund.
Lori Fleming Blenger was a dynamic woman. She was an advisory board member with SCTPN, and was a role model to the organizations youth members. Fleming Belenger overcame a lot of challenges living with sickle cell disease to earn two post-graduate degrees, an MBA and a Juris Doctor. “Lori was a friend and an inspiration to me and so many young adults, said Ginger Davis, Managing Partner of UNTOLD Story. Complications associated with SCD took her life and took her physical presence away from us, though not her spirit.” In loving memory to Lori, UNTOLD Story is leading the effort to fund this scholarship to provide monetary support to adults living with sickle cell and thalassemia who choose to pursue post-graduate degrees.
